Most forms on our site have an optional box that says “Yes, I’d like to hear from Arthat.” We tick it for you to save a click. If you leave it ticked, three things can happen: we may email you an update, we may message you on WhatsApp, and we may show you Arthat ads. Each one is explained below. If you’d rather not, just untick the box and none of it happens.
Our newsletter is separate. It has its own box underneath, “Send me Arthat’s AI notes (our newsletter)”, which we never tick for you.
If you leave the first box ticked, we may now and then email you an update or an offer about our work, at the address you gave on the form. Expect only the odd email. This is not our newsletter, and we don’t send you a confirmation email for it.
The newsletter is its own box, and it starts only when you tick it. “Send me Arthat’s AI notes (our newsletter)” is never ticked for you. Tick it and you’re on the list straight away: our AI notes, which are the new Insights and “AI today” posts, roughly one email a week. Leave it unticked and you get no newsletter. (The sign-up boxes on our blog and in the footer work differently: they send you one short email with a confirm button first, and you’re on the list once you press it.)
If you gave us a phone number on the form, we may send you occasional updates and offers on WhatsApp, to that number. If you didn’t give a number, there’s nothing for us to send to.
Reply STOP to any of our WhatsApp messages at any time and they stop.
Ads on Meta and Google
We may show you relevant Arthat ads on platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. Here is how that works, and what we do not do.
- We share only an encrypted version of your email address or phone number. It is called a hash: a one-way scramble that cannot be turned back into the original.
- The platform compares that scrambled version with the scrambled details of its own users. If it finds a match, it can show you our ads. We never give the platform your email address or number in plain text.
- We never sell your data.
Changing your mind
You can change your mind whenever you like, and we act on it straight away. Pick whichever way is easiest:
- The preferences page. Open it from the link at the bottom of any of our emails (it lives at /newsletter/preferences). There you can switch the newsletter, email updates, WhatsApp and ads off one by one, or everything at once.
- The unsubscribe link in every email. One click, and you stop getting all our emails (newsletter and updates) and the ads stop too.
- Reply STOP on WhatsApp. That ends our WhatsApp messages and the ads matched to your number.
- Email us at privacy@arthat.org and tell us what you’d like to stop.
Unticking the first box on a form means none of this happens, and leaving the newsletter box unticked means no newsletter. Whether they’re ticked or not, we handle your enquiry or job application in exactly the same way.
